A Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) design is the organization, arrangement, guidance, and control of both stationary and moving traffic, including pedestrians, cyclists, and all types of vehicles, around a hazard or work site for the safety of both road workers and road users.
The objective of a Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) design is to minimize impacts and disruption to the existing road network (traffic flow and connectivity) during construction activities and most importantly identify and eliminate or mitigate road user and construction worker safety during this time.
A Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) design is developed in accordance with Austroads Guidelines and Austroads Supplements, Traffic Control at Work Sites Manual, Australian Standards, and government specifications (e.g. TfNSW G10 Traffic Management Specification).
D-TAL is a reliable and trusted engineering design partner in the delivery of complex Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) projects. Our experienced team of Temporary Traffic Management design engineers are committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable, and cost-effective Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) designs with the road user and road user safety at the heart of what we do.
We consistently aim to deliver our services in accordance with our company values, Inspire to Dream, Accountability, Support and Service.
We have proven experience delivering for state and local government authorities, contractors, consultants, and private developers. Our delivery experience ranges from major infrastructure projects, intersection upgrades, active transport links and property and construction site accesses. Our road design engineers utilize OpenRoads Designer, 12d, DRAINS and AutoCAD software packages.
The primary goal of a Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) design is to maintain a safe and efficient traffic flow while protecting both road users and construction workers. By carefully planning and implementing temporary traffic control measures, potential hazards are minimized, and the overall impact on the transportation network is reduced during construction or maintenance activities.
The Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) design is an integral part of the overall project planning process, and its effectiveness contributes significantly to the successful and safe completion of temporary roadwork projects.

Service: Temporary Traffic Management
Project Description:
The new Sydney Fish Market will be located at the head of Blackwattle Bay on Bridge Road, Glebe, within Blackwattle Bay. The site is adjacent to the existing fish market, located southeast of Anzac Bridge at the intersection of Pyrmont Bridge Road and the Western Distributor.
As part of the redevelopment, Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) traffic staging designs are required on Bridge Road to facilitate the construction of the permanent works. This includes utility and pavement works, to provide bus stopping areas on the streetscape of the redevelopment and an additional northern leg to an existing intersection at Wentworth Park Road, required to access the new Sydney Fish Market.
D-TAL was engaged to prepare the Traffic Management (TTM) design to support the proposed construction program, whilst minimizing traffic impacts to all road users during construction activities on Bridge Road.

“We thoroughly enjoyed working with D-TAL to deliver the Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) designs for the Sydney Fish Market Redevelopment project. D-TAL provided professional advice and their design service exceeded expectations. They were able to meet program and critical milestones. I would highly recommend D-TAL for any civil engineering design services. “

Project: Singleton Bypass (Tender Design)
Date: 2023
Client: John Holland / TfNSW
Project Value: $140M
Service: Temporary Traffic Management
Project Description:
The New England Highway is part of the inland Sydney to Brisbane National Land Transport Network and the primary route connecting the Upper Hunter with Maitland and Newcastle. The highway passes through the centre of Singleton and carries around 26,000 vehicles, including more than 3700 heavy vehicles, each day. Traffic volumes are predicted to increase in the next 25 years. The planned bypass of Singleton would improve the movement of freight and journeys for current and future traffic demands. The Singleton Bypass aims to improve traffic flow, travel times, and safety through Singleton town centre by reducing traffic including heavy freight.

“I recently worked with Dan and the D-TAL team on the Singleton Bypass tender to deliver a Traffic Management (TTM) strategy and design solution. I found Dan and his team to be professional and reliable. Their knowledge of Austroads and TfNSW standards allowed the project team to identify feasible traffic staging solutions efficiently. Dan and his team were able to quickly adapt to design changes and delivery timeframes. I highly recommend D-TAL’s services.”

“I recently worked with Daniel from D-TAL on a large $1.4B Design and Construct Infrastructure Tender as part of the proposed Sydney M7-M12 upgrade. My role as civil lead was to develop construction methodologies for a complex 3-tier intersection with 8 on/off ramps. The tender period was extremely tight and as a result, created a high-pressure environment.
I worked with Daniel directly to verify the proposed construction methodology and produce Traffic Management (TTM) staging drawings for the tender submission. Daniel and the D-TAL team were excellent to work with. In a high-pressure environment often working remotely via Teams, we were able to produce a well-thought-out and validated temporary works staging for the tender.
Daniel is a great communicator and is fully aware of the design standards and client expectations for temporary traffic management. Daniel was able to quickly identify solutions for complex alignment issues and always met his deadlines.
This is the second time I have worked with Daniel and both times have been a very positive experience. Daniel is a dedicated professional with high drive. I would not hesitate to work with him again.”
